POSITION SUMMARY
A custodian at the Focus Schools is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for students and staff. Their duties encompass routine facility cleaning, floor care, restroom sanitization, waste disposal, and setting up for school events, while actively monitoring for safety hazards and reporting required building maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Cleaning & Sanitation
• Daily Maintenance: Sweep, mop, and sanitize classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and restrooms. Vacuum and spot-clean carpets.
• Restrooms: Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms with paper products and hand soap.
• Trash Removal: Empty trash receptacles, bag garbage, and dispose of it in designated campus dumpsters. Clean and sanitize trash cans regularly.
• Deep Cleaning: Perform scheduled heavy cleaning, including stripping/waxing floors, shampooing carpets, washing interior and exterior windows, and removing graffiti.
Safety, Security & Maintenance
• Facility Security: Lock and unlock doors, secure gates, windows, and classrooms, and set or turn off security alarms as assigned.
• Hazard Identification: Identify and report structural damage, water leaks, pest presence, and other safety hazards to the administration or maintenance director.
• Light Maintenance: Perform minor repairs, replace light bulbs, , may assemble or adjust school furniture.
• Campus Grounds: Keep walkways, entryways, and curbs clear of debris. Assist with basic exterior sweeping as required.
Event Support & Logistics
• Event Setup: Arrange tables, chairs, , and after-school community events.
• Supply Management: Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and paper goods, informing supervisors when reordering is necessary.
• Equipment Care: Safely operate power equipment (buffers, industrial vacuums, pressure washers) and ensure tools are properly maintained and stored.
The Custodian will perform other duties as may be assigned by the director.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or such alternative(s) to the above qualifications as the Executive Director and/or the HR Director may deem appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform repetitive bending, and routinely lift and manipulate heavy objects (typically 50 lbs or more).
• Background & Training: Successful completion of background checks, and the ability to pass safety and hazardous material training.
• Soft Skills: Ability to follow written and verbal directions, understand safety data sheets (SDS) for chemical handling, and effectively communicate with students, faculty, and administration.
