The Dick & Jane series of educational reading primers were most popular in first-grades during the 1950s. (The series ended in 1965.)
Each primer contained about 80 words, featuring a limited vocabulary with clear illustrations demonstrating what each page or activity was about.
A new word was added every third page with repetition so kids were not overwhelmed by too many new words. Each classroom primer came with a page-by-page teacher's guide.
