We do the tree lighting every outside City Hall, and this year’s event will take place on Thursday, December 3 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. We are in need of a few volunteers to help us out with serving hot soup and bread which we will be selling as a fundraiser for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. The work will require you to be on your feet for approximately 2 hours. You would need to arrive at City Hall about 4:00 PM and work until around 6:00 PM. There are no guarantees on the weather, but I recommend bundling up in something comfy and warm, as we do the event no matter what the temperature is and no matter what might be falling from the sky.

About the Event

A short ceremony is punctuated by comments from the Mayor, City council members, and others while will culminate in the lighting of the City Hall holiday tree. Santa will also arrive and be on hand to take Christmas wish requests from the children and pass out holiday treats.

Throughout the event we will be holding an “Empty Bowls” fundraising event. Empty Bowls in a national program begun in 1990 to help alleviate hunger. The basic concept is that artists and others in the community make and donate ceramic bowls. The bowls are then sold along with soup for a suggested donation of $10, and the buyer gets delicious soup and an “empty bowl” as a reminder of the hunger of others. 100 % of the money raised will go to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. In light of the economic crisis that is sweeping the nation, Music in the Air feels a special dedication to Empty Bowls. As the number of Ohioans forced to seek help from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank increases, we believe that an endeavor such as Empty Bowls provides and excellent opportunity to give back to those in our community who are less fortunate.

If you would be interested in helping out at this year’s event please let me know. We only have a few positions available, so please get back to me as soon as possible if you are interested.

Thanks!

Dori
