Our Advanced Materials Applications (AMA) group is currently seeking a Research Intern. Our AMA group specializes in synthesis, formulation and processing of advanced materials. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. The Research Internship will start May/June 2010.
Primary job responsibilities will include:
conducting materials related research which may involve design and synthesis, application development, characterization and testing, and processing in support of efforts in the areas of fuel cell development, biobased materials, energy, photonics or nanomaterials.
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- must be currently pursuing a degree in a science-based discipline, such as a BS in chemistry, materials science or engineering, biochemistry, or chemical engineering, and must have completed at least two years of study
- must have knowledge of laboratory procedures including laboratory record keeping
- must be proficient with Microsoft Office(R) application software

This position is a key role at MP Biomedicals, LLC within the Marketing department. The Technical Inside Sales Representative will direcly assist the assigned product manager in all aspects of technical customer services on a daily basis. The Technical Inside Sales Representative is primarily responsible for the assigned North American business product lines, however the responsibilities may expand to other areas as needed.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from ad inquiries, trade shows, direct mail responses, card deck leads, aged leads, dealer resellers, business directories, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
2. Contacts potential and existing customers by telephone and e-mail to qualify leads and sell products and services and handles inbound sales lead calls to convert calls into sales.
3. Provides product demos, samples and literature to qualified customers, responds to questions and provides information about products as it relates to their needs. Emphasizes selling points, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales orders for orders obtained.
4. Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm’s production and delivery schedules.
5. Builds and maintains customer relationship, coordinates demonstrations for customer trials and coordinates training as appropriate.
6. Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
7. Ensure that all deliveries are timely; investigates and resolves any issues to the contrary.
8. Tracks stock levels and prepares reports of business transactions as appropriate.
9. Works with outside sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date.
10. Works with internal Product Manager and Customer Service to ensure accurate and sufficient quotations are provided.
11. Minimal travel to attend trade shows as needed.
12. Will answer calls and provide technical support to customers.
13. Assist the assigned Product manager with website and Intranet updating.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Bachelor’s degree required in either Chemistry, Biology or a closely related science.
2. Complex problem solving skills - Define customer problems and determine solutions in order to drive revenue for the company.
3. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and writing skills are required to interact with customers, other employees and management; requires the ability to anticipate and solve problems.
4. 1-4 years previous experience selling biotech products or related network products to the direct market.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WITH SCIENCE BACKGROUND
POSITION SUMMARY:
Work within the Customer Service Department which includes 12 Customer Service Representatives which serve domestic and international customers.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Process orders - intercompany, international, domestic.
Provide price quotations, product descriptions, and product availability to customers.
Liaison between customers and warehouse to ensure accurate, timely deliveries.
Set up new accounts, set up new distributors.
Telemarketing and phone sales activities as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILL/ABILITIES:
4 year college degree in science related field required.
Minimum of 1-2 years experience in Customer Service.
MUST HAVE experience in the Science industry or degree in science.

The Contract Wet Chemistry Lab Technician on assignment is responsible for all facets of testing from the set-up and take-down to reporting of results. The majority of the workday is spent in a laboratory setting working with new and used oils, solvents, chemicals and equipment utilized to complete testing. This person is responsible for ensuring safety and good housekeeping practices during daily operations.
Responsibilities
· Understand and perform basic testing calculations; ability to identify and resolve incorrect calculations and process the calculations manually if necessary. Recognize data inconsistencies before uploading.
· Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules to customers. Run multiple tests at a time.
· Recognize validity of test data. Notify supervisor regarding non-conformances and be able to identify root causes of inconsistent test data. Perform routine troubleshooting and repair on tests and equipment.
· Articulate and communicate testing issues to co-worker, group supervisor, and customer. Provide timely status updates. Work with customers on special requests. Follow-up on customer questions or concerns.
· Conduct quality tests following work procedures and ISO guidelines. Reference appropriate resource documents online.
· Enter and upload test data into Excel or internal software.
· Plot reference data on control charts. Understand control charting and when to investigate potential issues. Must be able to identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with customers to resolve issues or problems. Appropriately elevate the situation to group supervisor and/or customer when necessary.
· Facilitate sample flow between work area and other areas in the department. Communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
· Actively get involved with contributions to safety, housekeeping, environmental and process improvement initiatives.
· Update work instructions and procedures as necessary; forward recommended changes to area document controller. Maintain thorough documentation and associated information following ISO guidelines.

· Or BS/ BA Non-Chemistry Science degree w/o Chemistry minor and minimum 1 year of experience in a Wet Chemistry Lab industry position
A student in pursuit of the BS/BA Science degree w/ Chemistry minor or Chemistry coursework will be eligible for the position considering in your 3rd or 4th year of school and organic chemistry has already been complete.
