Our Advanced Materials Applications (AMA) group is currently seeking a Research Intern. Our AMA group specializes in synthesis, formulation and processing of advanced materials. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. The Research Internship will start May/June 2010.<br>

Primary job responsibilities will include:<br>

conducting materials related research which may involve design and synthesis, application development, characterization and testing, and processing in support of efforts in the areas of fuel cell development, biobased materials, energy, photonics or nanomaterials.<br>
<br>
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:<br>
- must be currently pursuing a degree in a science-based discipline, such as a BS in chemistry, materials science or engineering, biochemistry, or chemical engineering, and must have completed at least two years of study<br>
- must have knowledge of laboratory procedures including laboratory record keeping<br>
- must be proficient with Microsoft Office(R) application software<br>

POSITION SUMMARY:<br>

The Contract Wet Chemistry Lab Technician on assignment is responsible for all facets of testing from the set-up and take-down to reporting of results.&#8203;  The majority of the workday is spent in a laboratory setting working with new and used oils, solvents, chemicals and equipment utilized to complete testing.&#8203;  This person is responsible for ensuring safety and good housekeeping practices during daily operations.&#8203;<br>

Responsibilities<br>

·         Understand and perform basic testing calculations; ability to identify and resolve incorrect calculations and process the calculations manually if necessary.&#8203;  Recognize data inconsistencies before uploading.&#8203;<br>

·         Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules to customers.&#8203;  Run multiple tests at a time.&#8203;<br>

·         Recognize validity of test data.&#8203;  Notify supervisor regarding non-conformances and be able to identify root causes of inconsistent test data.&#8203;  Perform routine troubleshooting and repair on tests and equipment.&#8203;<br>

·         Articulate and communicate testing issues to co-worker, group supervisor, and customer.&#8203;  Provide timely status updates.&#8203;  Work with customers on special requests.&#8203;  Follow-up on customer questions or concerns.&#8203;<br>

You must meet the following requirement to be considered:<br>
 Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree with three to seven years experience in biological sciences (preferably in molecular biology) required. Requires experience working in BSL-2 containment environment. <br>
Job responsibilities include: <br>
Real-time PCR and reverse-transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR) techniques, chemistries and fluorophores. <br>
Working in a one-way work flow, clean PCR environment.<br>
Develop, optimize, troubleshoot and perform PCR and RT-PCR assays Primer and probe design and optimization.<br>
Characterization of post-PCR reactions, including quantitation and sequencing General molecular biology techniques.<br>
Purify nucleic acids from complex matrices including blood, serum, saliva and respiratory specimens Bacterial and mammalian cell culture.<br>
Manipulation of viruses, infected cell cultures and viral lysates.<br>
Research in Thyriod Cancer or Smoking cessation should be highlighted.<br>
Knowledge of NCBI databases and other molecular biology related software programs.<br>
Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point and Excel Statistical programs such as Graph Pad or Sigma Plot.<br>
Data organization, analysis and presentation Writing Protocols and SOPs.<br>

-Purify nucleic acids from complex matrices, typically blood or plasma Optimize, troubleshoot and perform reverse transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR) assays <br>
-Purify and quantitate PCR products <br>
-Perform DNA ligations, yeast and bacterial plasmid DNA purifications.<br>
-Perform yeast and bacterial transformations Develop, validate and implement new Biological QC methods (immunoassay, virological, microbiological, molecular biological assays) <br>
-Perform mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, protein engineering, expression and purification, enzymatic assays and characterization, and quantitative RT-PCR. <br>
-Excellent organizational, trouble-shooting, time management, communication, and written skills are required. <br>
-Must be able to work in a team environment and independently. <br>

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:<br>
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry or related discipline. Masters degree highly preferred.<br>

Regulatory Affairs experience within the Infant Formula industry is a must<br>

8 -10 years of experience with regulatory management in infant formula<br>
<br>
Strong project management, technical and communication skills.<br>
