If you replied to this posting last week, please respond again.</b><br><br><b>DESCRIPTION:</b><br><br>The position has responsibility for the day-to-day operation of an organic/polymer lab under the general guidance a Ph.D. principal investigator or Research Engineer. Additionally this position will work with other scientists and engineers to support R&D programs. The candidate will conduct experiments, analyze results and make recommendations based on their analysis. The candidate is expected to maintain the primary laboratory notebook, order materials, comply with relevant safety and environmental regulations, and prepare SOP's with minimal assistance.<br><br>Key responsibilities include:<ol><li>Preparation of particle dispersions using media mills, attritors, high-speed dispersers, and sonifiers.<li>Characterization of quality and stability of dispersions using particle size analysis, viscosity, optical microscopy, and various other instrumental and wet chemical techniques.<li>Familiarize and become an expert on polyimide wet chemistry.<li>Coordinate with internal and external labs/facilities on testing and downstream processing to support product development, scale-up, and commercialization.<li>Preparation of polyimide polymer formulations in the lab and plant test scale.<li>Characterization of films and polymers with methods such as: FTIR, GPC, SEM, AFM, TGA, TMA, DSC, Instron, Dilatometer etc.<li>With time and experience, the technologist would also become involved in origination, definition, and execution of new application/product development programs.</ol>One component of the work is wet organic/ polymer synthesis involving standard organic and polymer synthesis and purification techniques. Another component of the work involves the processing and characterization of polymeric materials. It is mandatory that the candidate have a solid organic synthesis background (FT-IR, GPC, TGA/DSC, UV-Vis, H-NMR). A willingness to complement that skill-set with polymer processing/characterization practices such as compounding, extrusion, injection molding, viscometry, and thermal-analysis is also needed. Candidate should have the ability to execute assignments independently and should have a proven track record of having a strong work ethic and positive team attitude. Although a working knowledge of polymer chemistry is not required, a willingness to learn that research area will be needed.<br><br><b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b><ol><li>A BS in Chemistry or Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or its educational equivalent in a technical or scientific field.<li>Ability to plan and conduct experiments, compile and analyze data, and make appropriate recommendations.<li>Strong computer skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word), MS Powerpoint and statistical analysis (greenbelt certification).<li>Demonstrated mechanical and laboratory hands-on skills. 
Demonstrated ability to proactively and creatively conduct non-routine tasks with minimal supervision.<li>Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.<li>Excellent communication skills, ability to interface one-on-one with customers and give presentations.<li>Ability to perform physical work consistent with corporate ergonomic guidelines.<li>Demonstrated ability to be well organized.
Willingness to learn and participate in the development of new techniques and test methods.<li>Ability to work both independently and as part of team research effort.<li>A proven track record of having a strong work ethic and positive team attitude.</ol>]]></description>
