Community Voters Project Now Hiring Organizers (Columbus)

Working class and poor minority communities around the country face tough issues from health care to quality education to how to make ends meet. While these concerns are beginning to be heard, we still face massive opposition from powerful opponents like the insurance industry. And it’s often hard to get politicians to pay attention to these communities since they’re rarely seen as big campaign contributors. Even with the first African American presidential candidate and extensive voter registration campaigns in 2008, only 64% of the eligible non-white population were registered to vote in the last election.

Ready to help break the cycle?

The Fund for the Public Interest is currently hiring Organizers to register voters with the Progressive Future Education Fund Community Voters Project.

The Community Voters Project is an intensive, multi-state nonpartisan campaign to register voters in communities across the nation. In 2008 the Community Voters Project registered over 300,000 African American and Latino voters in ten states. The Community Voters Project is working with The Fund for the Public Interest to run this campaign and we are hiring Organizers to recruit and train volunteers to register over 60,000 African Americans to vote in 2010.

Your Responsibilities:
Each Organizer will recruit and train volunteers to register 8,000-10,000 African Americans to vote by:
*Building partnerships and collaborating with local community groups
*Recruiting volunteers through community events and phone banking
*Training volunteers to register voters by event-style street canvassing
*Motivating volunteers to hit voter registration goals
*Oversee all administrative functions related to registration work and general office management

Apply by sending a resume and cover letter to hiring@fundstaff.org or apply online at http://www.fundforthepublicinterest.org/jobs/leadership/application2.

What we’re looking for:
We're looking for smart, motivated, action-oriented college graduates who are interested in politics and possess a commitment to social justice and civic engagement. You'll need stamina, the ability to convey urgency and passion, and a strong work ethic. Experience working with volunteers is a plus.

Where you’ll work:
The Fund will be working with the Community Voters Project in least five states. Candidates need to be flexible about placement.

What you’ll earn:
You will earn an annual salary of $23,750. Benefits include eligibility to enroll in our group health plan and to apply for college loan assistance.

The training you’ll receive:
Staff will participate in on-the-job training and central trainings throughout the course of their time on staff. Expect to learn how to recruit, train and manage volunteers, collaborate with community groups, handle administrative work, and register people to vote.

Territory Manager (Columbus)

Company – Planet Aid is Planet Aid is a non-profit organization raising funds for community development projects in Africa, India and Latin America through the collection, handling and resale of used clothes.
We collect the clothes through the placement of drop-off boxes in outdoor areas easily accessible to the general public. The boxes are typically placed at supermarkets, convenience stores, gas stations, shopping centers, churches, schools or similar places where many people have access.

Overview – The primary responsibility of the Territory Manager position is to expand Planet Aid’s collection in the Columbus metro area, while securing and improving the existing collection sites. Managing the territory is a multi-faceted job that mandates the successful TM to have sales, operations, and analytical skills. The following is a brief outline of the position.

Establishing Donation Sites – The TM will be expected to identify appropriate locations for the placement of Planet Aid donation boxes. This will involve contacting business owners, property management companies, etc and asking then to host one of PA’s boxes. The TM must understand the PA mission and be comfortable speaking with others about it. Being able to identify excellent donation sites is the cornerstone of the TM’s responsibility. Being familiar with the territory, and traffic patterns, will be very helpful in identifying these sites.

Managing Donation Site Issues – There are currently approximately 500 donation sites within the territory. Issues arise on a daily basis involving box removal requests, additional box requests, over flowing bins etc. The TM’s responsibility is to respond to these inquiries, determine the best course of action, and work with our transportation team to resolve them. Being a team player is essential to dealing with these issues.

Summary – The TM’s ultimate responsibility is to produce revenue from their territory. The primary source of this revenue will be from donation boxes and the clothing they produce. The successful TM will optimize the yield from these boxes by replacing low producing sites and establishing high producing sites. Dealing with site issues is critical to the growth of a territory. By responding quickly, and decisively, to all customer issues the TM will demonstrate PA’s commitment to providing the best customer service in the industry.

The main focus for the initial phase of employment will be on securing as many new donation sites as possible and grow the overall capacity of the territory. Eventually the responsibilities will shift to be more equally shared between the growth and maintenance aspects.

The TM will be issued a company cell phone.
During the initial phase the TM will use his/her own vehicle and be compensated for miles driven. After the initial phase the TM will be issued a company vehicle.

To apply, please email your resume and cover letter.
