REALLY Nice 1975 Honda CB 550 - $1000 (Newark)

OK, I don't have a motorcycle to sell, but I will save you time, gas and frustration if you are looking for a clean 4000 mile CB. There is a VERY similar add for a green 550. The 'gentleman' will describe it as " having been stored in the basement of an older man who died, the bike is in very good condition, the only bad part is the mirrors are rusty, and the side panel are slightly cracked, but otherwise it's in great shape. A kid bought it last year, had it tuned up, rode it for the summer but now needs the money for school." From his description (and I asked him a LOT of questions), you would think it was almost showroom condition.

Here's the real story...
I wasted 7 hours, $30 in gas and a favor to go see this turd of a bike. The actual description is as follows: both plastic side panels are almost broken in half, the mirrors are very rusty, the bike has been dropped on both sides as the engine covers are dented on each side. The frame has rust in spots, the paint is flaking off the engine, the aluminum is corroding and the redline is faded to almost white (all this on a bike that has been stored indoors??). Most chrome is pitted, the front caliper that was supposedly replaced drags pretty bad (leaks fluid), air filter is so dirty you could plant seeds in there (a recent tune up my a**), and the rear rim has a BIG flat spot in it. It doesn't run very well and the tires may be the original for all I know.

Here's the good: It may have 4k miles, I don't know; the tank and seat are in pretty good shape, and with a tune up will probably run decent. This is not the cream puff that you are hoping for. In fact while I was there, another fellow stopped to see it and told me the seller (Kenny) gave him the same description. He looked at it and left.

Kenny at WIMERS JUNKyard in Newark is a liar (and I do mean junk). Know the story before you wast your time on this hillbilly!
